DIGG's Testimonials and Success Stories

Sally Paterson participated in the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon to raise funds for DIGG in recognition of its contribution
to the recovery of a friend. She wrote the following in support of her appeal:
On Sunday 5th September I will be attempting the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon. I have never run 13 miles before so I am feeling
slightly nervous but am looking forward to the challenge!
I would like to use this opportunity to raise money for a very special charity that not many people are aware of.
Disability Information Greater Glasgow (DIGG) aims to provide people who have a long-term disability with the information they need
to take control and live life to the full.
DIGG helped my friend RW after he suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2005 secondary to an arteriovenous malformation. This was
something that R was born with, but completely unaware of, until it happened and he was left unable to walk or communicate on his
own. Without the great work done by DIGG, R would not be where he is today.
The team at DIGG treated R as a person, rather than just another statistic and looked at what was best for improving his life.
They really get into the person’s life and think about what is best for them, meaning that they can grow and fulfil their ambitions
in life, rather than stay stagnant with their disability.
DIGG not only helped R to secure the correct disability funding, but also went out their way to visit R at home and ensure he got
out of the house. This meant that he was not stuck at home, possibly getting depressed. This is hugely important for someone who
has suffered brain damage, as their whole life will have changed completely.
The team at DIGG looked for things that would interest R, such as woodwork. They helped him go to a place called Boomerang which
taught basic woodwork. This helped him get out of the house, gave him activities to focus on, and his confidence to be on his own
increased. With a growing confidence, something to live for, and independence, R progressed and was able to go back to college.
Without the help from the amazing people at DIGG, this would not have been possible.
Without R’s determination and drive and the team at DIGGs support, he would be a lot worse off with his benefits and most
importantly, his disability.
JW, who helped treat R, says that R’s situation was one of DIGG’s greatest and happiest success stories.
Please help me to support them, so that they can continue to improve peoples’ lives the way they have dramatically improved R’s.
Thanks

I first met the staff at DIGG on 1st July 2010. I remember that date because it was the day I was told I had MS.
To be honest I didn't really know what DIGG could do to help but I spoke to a staff member who was diagnosed with MS 12 years ago
and was relieved to see she was still working and living her life to the full.
After a long chat she took me to Revive MS Therapy Centre and I made an appointment with the MS nurse.
Since then DIGG has arranged for a Benefits advisor to visit my home and they have also advised me to contact my local OT, social
work department and gave me some information about equipment that is available either to buy or through the Social Work Department.
Because of my MS I forget things but I always know that the staff at DIGG are always available to help, advise and take the
pressure of when things get too much as stress has a really bad effect on my symptoms.
