The Anthony Nolan Trust was established in 1974 as the world's first volunteer unrelated bone marrow donor register. Today ANT maintains the UK's largest register of over 332,000 potential volunteer donors willing to donate their blood stem cells should their tissue type match that of a patient in need of a transplant to help fight leukaemia or related diseases of the immune system. ANT research programmes constantly work to improve the outcome of bone marrow transplantation and have also made a major contribution to advances in the field of leukaemia research and treatment.
